Institute of Petroleum
Accounting UNT's
Institute of Petroleum Accounting is dedicated to the study of accounting,
financial, taxation and economic issues affecting the oil and gas industry
and other extractive industries. Founded in 1980 under the guidance of
Horace Brock and endowed by several major oil companies, the institute's
mission is to serve the various constituencies of the extractive industries
through research, education and publications. The
institute publishes the Petroleum Accounting and Financial Management
Journal, featuring articles on the
petroleum industry written by experts drawn from both industry and academia.
In addition, the institute, in conjunction with PricewaterhouseCoopers
LLP, regularly surveys petroleum industry financial professionals on their
current accounting practices and publishes the results. This popular series,
begun in 1989 and now in its fifth update, is known as the PricewaterhouseCoopers
Survey of U.S. Petroleum Accounting Practices.
In 1997, the institute published the first survey on European petroleum
accounting practices. Under
its current director, Teddy L. Coe, the institute has expanded its international
reach. For the last several years, it has hosted graduate and post-graduate
fellows from Spain, Saudi Arabia, Russia, Sweden and the United Kingdom,
reflecting the global nature of the petroleum industry itself.
