Coming full circleJoan and Raymond Clay

For faculty members Joan and Raymond Clay, teaching is only half of their role as university citizens. Assisting students in the form of scholarships is the other integral part. "It's like completing a circle," explains Joan, associate professor of merchandising and hospitality management.

Both have worked on the scholarship committees for their individual departments and recognize the benefits that such funds bring.

"Scholarships help students focus their efforts on education," says Raymond, D/FW Institute of Internal Auditors Professor of Accounting, "as opposed to working many hours while attending school."

Therefore, this summer the couple decided to join the President's Council, which raises money for UNT scholarships. Their annual membership dues will fund one $500 accounting scholarship and one $500 hospitality management scholarship.

"The way the council is structured to give back to our areas is attractive," says Joan. 'It's an opportunity to acknowledge our giving as a couple and as individuals."

"We thought about joining and found it to be positive for us and for students," agrees Raymond. "It's a growing area of giving."
