2001 Volkswagen Beetle

UNT's newest, meanest machine is a 2001 Volkswagen Beetle donated by Brad Hagestad, owner of Metro Volkswagen in Irving. Adorned with UNT and Eagle decals, the new vehicle is used by the development office for business travel in the Metroplex.

ALAN B. ALBARRAN, professor and chair of the Department of Radio, Television and Film, published The Radio/Broadcasting Industry, Allyn and Bacon, 2000. Albarran also received an invitation to join the editorial board of the International Journal on Media Management.

JEFF M. ALLEN, assistant professor of technology and cognition, attended the University Council for Workforce and Higher Education as a UNT representative, July 13-15, in Breckenridge, Colo.

LYNDAL M. BULLOCK, Regents Professor of technology and cognition, presented "Listening to Different Voices: Designing Effective Programs for Children and Youth With Challenging Behaviors" at the International Special Education Conference, July 22-Aug. 5 in Manchester, England.

GLORIA CONTRERAS, professor of teacher education and administration, Gloria Contreraspresented "Understanding the Global South: Strategies and Resources for Teaching about Latin America" at the National Council for Social Studies International Conference, June 28-July 2 in Calgary, Canada.

L. PERRY KOZIRIS, assistant professor of kinesiology, health promotion and recreation, authored a Current Comment, which is an official statement by the American College of Sports Medicine. His article was titled "Alcohol and Athletic Performance."

RUTHANN MASARACCHIA, professor of biological sciences and interim director of women's studies, was published in the Journal of Biological Chemistry, vol. 275. The article she co-wrote is titled, "Phosphorylation of Myosin Light Chain Kinase by p21-Activated Kinase PAK2."

Sam SaulsSAM SAULS, associate professor of radio, television and film, served as a co-moderator for the panel "Partnering Between State Broadcasting Associations and Universities or Educational Associations" at the Texas Association of Broadcast Educators Fall Student/Faculty Conference, Aug. 18 in San Antonio.

CHARLES RUSKIN TEETER, professor of teacher education and administration, presented "The 19th Century School Reform Movement in the United States" at the National Social Sciences Association conference, Aug. 6-12 in Honolulu.

The Psychology 1000 class (Psychology of Personal and Academic Effectiveness) and its impact on critical thinking in college freshmen is discussed by TRENT PETRIE, associate professor of psychology, in the Sept. 3 Dallas Morning News.

The TEXAS ACADEMY OF MATHEMATICS AND SCIENCE is featured in an Aug. 29 USA Today article. The story includes quotes from JIM MILLER, Emeritus Dean of education, and RICHARD SINCLAIR, TAMS dean.

A report concerning the business-friendly atmosphere of Dallas-Fort Worth by BERNARD WEINSTEIN, professor of applied economics and director of the University Center for Economic Development and Research, and TERRY CLOWER, assistant professor of applied economics and associate director of the center, is featured in an Aug. 28 Fort Worth Star-Telegram article.
