Center for the Study of Military History

The Center for the Study of Diplomatic and Military History was founded in 1989. Its primary function is to publish the scholarly journal Military History of the West. The journal, aimed at informed non-professional readers as well as professional historians, specializes in articles about the military history of the western United Sates.

Subscribers to the journal include individuals as well as university libraries in the United States, including the military academies.

Each fall and spring issue includes three or four articles and numerous reviews of recent books on military history. Each article is refereed by specialists in the field. Topics of articles in the fall 2000 issue include the experiences of the National Guard on the Mexican border in the early 20th century, the military career of a Texas Marine in the Pacific during World War II, and medical treatments of arrow wounds in the late1800s.

The journal is edited by Regents Professor Richard Lowe and Jane Tanner, adjunct professor of history.
