Faculty honored at convocation ceremony

Several faculty members were honored at the annual Faculty Convocation Aug. 23. The awards and recipients included:

President's Council University Teaching Awards, presented to recognize full-time, tenure-track faculty members for a record of outstanding teaching at UNT over at least a five-year period — John Quintanilla, associate professor of mathematics, and Richard E. White, professor of management

President's Council University Service Award, presented to recognize a full-time, tenure-track faculty member for a record of outstanding university service at UNT over at least a five-year period — Juliet M. Getty, associate professor of merchandising and hospitality management

PDI Fellows, College of Business Administration, presented to recognize the outstanding research of full-time, tenure-track UNT faculty members in the College of Business Administration and based on an endowment established by the Professional Development Institute Shailesh S. Kulkarni, assistant professor of information technology and decision sciences, and K.K. Raman, professor of accounting

Toulouse Scholar Award, presented to recognize the outstanding teaching and scholarly or creative achievements of members of the UNT faculty and thereby to honor the distinguished contributions of Robert B. Toulouse to the university Richard Rogers, professor of psychology

International Education Awards, is presented to a person who, in the opinion of peers and the International Education Committee, has performed or achieved an extraordinary record of outstanding, distinguished or meritorious service to international education and UNT —  Steve Friedson, professor of music, and Mitch Land, associate professor of journalism and director of the Mayborn Graduate Institute of Journalism

J.H. Shelton Excellence in Teaching Award, presented to recognize outstanding teaching performance and scholarly pursuit, originally named for UNT alumnus Joe Houston Shelton — Jeanne Tunks, assistant professor of teacher education and administration

Special Recognition Award, presented to honor special contributions, such as outstanding long-term service or unusual singular contributions — Ronald W. Hasty, professor of marketing and logistics

President's Award, presented to recognize individuals or groups for activities and accomplishments that have brought significant state, national or international recognition to UNT — Gloria Cox, associate professor of political science and director of academic core programs

UNT Community Award, presented to faculty for outstanding service to the university community which has improved the university but which was not a part of the individuals expected duties or responsibilities and recognizes the time and concern given to individuals or groups of students; assistance consistently given to other faculty and staff or other involvement in the university community — Kimi King, associate professor of political science

National Security Award, presented this year by the U.S. National Security Agency designating UNT as a center of academic excellence in information assurance education Steve Tate, associate professor of computer science and engineering and director of the Center for Information and Computer Security
