UNT scholarships benefit from eBay

What do you get when an avid    eBay seller also "bleeds green"? Money for UNT student scholarships.

UNT has joined almost 3,000 nonprofit organizations registered with MissionFish, a non- profit service of the Points of Light Foundation that has worked with eBay since 2003 to assist nonprofits in raising funds through online sales and auctions.

Under the MissionFish arrangement, eBay sellers can register items at www.missionfish.org that they want to auction on eBay and direct a percentage of the money they receive, from a minimum of $10 to 100 percent of the proceeds, to the UNT Foundation. Buyers can locate these items through the MissionFish web site.

The first item auctioned to benefit UNT was a 1995 World Series baseball autographed by the Atlanta Braves' Chipper Jones. All proceeds from the winning bid of $76 were directed to the UNT Foundation.

The foundation will receive donations designated to the university by the seller and distribute the proceeds to the UNT Cornerstone Fund for Scholars, an endowment for student scholarships. For more information, click on the MissionFish logo at www.unt.edu/development.
