New Fouts Field scoreboard, videoboard to be finished in time for first home game

The athletics department will unveil a new scoreboard and videoboard at Fouts Field this fall as part of a major multimedia sponsorship plan. Major sponsors include Coca-Cola, Wells Fargo Bank and Denton Regional Medical Center. In addition to the Fouts Field scoreboard, phase 1 of the project includes a new video production truck, an aquatics scoreboard in the Student Recreation Center and enhancements to the concourse area at Fouts Field.

Phase 2 of the project will include new scoreboards for softball, soccer and volleyball at the Liberty Christian School property and a highway message board on Interstate 35.

"We have been working in conjunction with Daktronics Sports Marketing for more than a year on this project," says Hank Dickenson, senior associate athletic director, who has been leading the project for the athletics department. "It has been an ambitious sales job, and we have an equally ambitious timeline to follow leading up to the Baylor game on Sept. 6. Everyone at Daktronics feels confident that we can have the new board up and running for the home opener."

The new scoreboard and videoboard, twice the size of the original, replaces the scoreboard on the south end of Fouts Field. The north board will be refurbished and the advertising will be updated.

Concourse and portal positions the ramps leading up from the concourse area into the stadium in Fouts Field will also see significant changes this football season. Each will be outfitted with traditional images from Mean Green history.

"Athletic Director Rick Villarreal has been adamant about creating a feel of tradition inside the stadium," Dickenson says. "Daktronics has done an excellent job of helping us achieve that goal. I think North Texas fans, old and young, will really appreciate the effort being made."

Delivery of the new scoreboard sections began in mid-August. The board can be moved to a new stadium in the future.
