RICKEY EDDIE, UNT System Center financial aid officer, spoke at a Project Literacy/America's Promise program about encouraging youth to stay in school, Aug. 17 in Dallas. CATHLEEN
NORRIS, professor of technology and cognition, was awarded the "Making
it Happen" jacket at a joint meeting of the International Society
for Technology in Education and the National Education Computing Association,
June 17-19 in San Antonio. Making it Happen is a program that recognizes
outstanding educators for successfully integrating technology in education. BERNARD L. WEINSTEIN, professor of applied economics and director of the University Center for Economic Development and Research, presented invited testimony on the changing demographics and economics of Dallas and their implications for local governance to the city of Dallas Charter Review Commission, Aug. 22 in Dallas. UNT DINING SERVICES received second place in the 29th annual Loyal E. Horton Dining Awards Contest for its "Five Star Dining Mansion on Turtle Creek Style" special dinner at the National Association of College and University Food Services Conference, July 18 in Orlando, Fla. Dining Services staff met with Dean Fearing, Mansion on Turtle Creek chef, and the Mansion staff, who shared several of the Mansion's recipes. Dining Services used those recipes to prepare a meal that was served to the UNT community in most residence hall cafeterias on March 6. Photos of the meal and the meal recipes were submitted as UNT's contest entry, which placed second out of 150 entries.

BERNARD WEINSTEIN, professor of applied economics and director of the University Center for Economic Development and Research, comments on the current confusing economic outlook in the Aug. 13 Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Weinstein also discusses the jobless rate in an article in the Aug 16 Dallas Morning News. BENJAMIN, associate professor of biological sciences, is featured
in an Aug. 16 Denton Record-Chronicle article concerning his testimony
on DNA samples in a murder trial in The Colony.
KURT J. NEUFANG, transportation manager and a major in the Army Reserve, received the Selective Service System Meritorious Service Medal for his role in coordinating leadership assemblies in Dallas public high schools, in partnership with Dallas ISD Superintendent Mike Moses. The effort increased Selective Service registration compliance and received national acclaim.
