study: Private businesses played vital role in WTC disaster response
Many
Americans viewing television coverage of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks
on the World Trade Center may have assumed that the city and state of
New York, other government organizations, and nonprofit organizations
such as the Red Cross provided most of the emergency response and recovery
following the disaster.
Regents
rename Administration Building for Hurleys; approve emeritus appointments
In August, at Alfred F. Hurley's final UNT System Board of Regents
meeting as system chancellor, the regents honored him and his wife,
Johanna, by renaming the university Administration Building the Alfred
F. and Johanna H. Hurley Administration Building.

Reports of the West Nile virus spreading throughout the United States concern many citizens in Dallas, Fort Worth, Denton and other Texas cities.
UNT
creates electronic conferencing laboratory
Large
companies with several offices throughout the nation must conduct regular
planning meetings to ensure that each site has the same information
and that ideas are coordinated. A company may have to spend thousands
of dollars on travel expenses and lose work time so managers and work
teams can meet face to face. Teleconferencing is often not the answer,
because a skilled facilitator with flip charts must lead the brainstorming
and all participants of a teleconference cannot see the charts.

Disaster
Education Day at UNT Sept. 13
Rick
Lohr, who directed the successful rescue of nine coal miners in Pennsylvania
in July as director of the Somerset County, Pa., Department of Emergency
Services, will be among the featured speakers during Disaster Education
Day at UNT Sept. 13.
