PURPOSE OF THE UNT CORE CURRICULUM

The University of North Texas Core Curriculum is designed to provide all undergraduates a balanced, broad and coherent general education. This foundation of courses prepares students not only for success in their major fields of study but also for life-long learning and responsible citizenship in an increasingly complex world.

The University of North Texas Core Curriculum promotes competence in reading, writing, speaking, listening, critical thinking, computer literacy and mathematics. Students are able to choose courses that help them develop knowledge about and appreciation for history, humanities, literature, politics, science, social and behavioral sciences, and the visual and performing arts. In addition to state-required components, the UNT Core Curriculum includes courses in the following three designated areas: 1) communication, 2) cross-cultural, diversity and global studies, and 3) wellness. The multidisciplinary core curriculum helps students establish knowledge bases and reflect on their own goals and values as they prepare for their life work.
