   Graduation Rates for
   New From High School and
   New Transfers:

   Fall 1993 - 2000

Information for seven years:

New undergraduate students were tracked from the fall semester in which they first entered the University of North Texas through August 2000 (i.e., through the 1999-2000 academic year). Each table in the report begins with the fall semester of 1993. This provides information through the seventh year for those entering as new students in fall 1993. The following general statements may be helpful in guiding a study of the details in the five tables:
  • The seven-year graduation rates were 39.4% for the new-from-high-school freshmen entering in fall 1993 and 40.0% for new freshmen transfers who entered that same semester.
  • The largest number of the new-from-high-school freshmen who graduate do so during the fifth year, compared to the fourth year for new freshmen transfers.
  • Of the sophomore transfers who graduated, the largest number did so within three years, followed closely by those who graduated during their fourth year.
  • Of the junior transfers who graduated, the largest number did so during their third year, but many graduated within two years or during the fourth year.

The data below provides some useful trend information. The data for the 1993, 1994, and 1995 cohorts are from the tables that follow, however the data for the 1987 through 1992 cohorts are not included in the tables.

The following definitions are important:

Term when new to UNT. The heading “term when new to UNT” refers to a fall semester and, unlike the NCAA reports, does not include new summer students who returned in the fall.

  • Both full-time and part-time students. Undergraduates who first entered in the semester specified were included regardless of whether they enrolled as full-time students (12 hours or more) or part-time students (only 184 out of 3,179 new freshmen in fall 2000 were part-time). The NCAA reports include only those who enrolled for 12 hours or more in the fall semester.
  • Graduation year. Graduation was tracked through summer 2000 and students were counted as graduating within a given academic year if they graduated in December, May, or August of that academic year.
  • Logic for time frames. The selected time frames that appear in the various tables were based on the logic that a new sophomore transfer graduating within three years or a new junior transfer graduating within two years can be considered somewhat equivalent to a new freshman graduating within four years.

Caution. The percentages are not very meaningful for some of the transfer group entries
where  the number in the group is extremely small.
