Appendix B
One-Year Retention: All Undergraduates in Fall 1998 tracked to Fall 1999

Base fall term: Fall 1998 (total undergraduates enrolled: 19,461). The study includes both those undergraduates who were new to the University of North Texas in the base fall term and those who had been enrolled previously. It includes both full-time undergraduates (enrolled in 12 semester hours or more in the base fall term) and part-time undergraduates. Other reports exist with similar data for full-time students only. Some are in the UNT Fact Book.

One-year retention status. Undergraduates were tracked for one year, from the base fall term to the following fall semester. Each student was identified as being in one of three "retention status" categories:

The report does not include undergraduates who may have been enrolled in the spring or summer of the academic year, but were not enrolled in the base fall term.

Classification. Analysis by student classification is important. Freshmen in the base fall term are not expected to graduate in that academic year. However, it is expected that many seniors would have completed their degrees by August.
