Appendix D
Students Who Transfer to the University of North Texas

Information about the transfer students at UNT ins fall 1999 is reported and compared with the previous fall. The numbers in this report are based on the "original admission code" so those who originally entered UNT as a transfer are counted as a transfer regardless of their "current admission code."

Of the undergraduates enrolled in fall 1999, over one-half (52.8%) originally came to UNT as transfers from other institutions. Transfers are counted in two ways, for specific purposes, in this report: new transfers (transferred to UNT in fall being reported) and transfers who may have transferred to UNT in a previous semester (for example, a student now classified as a senior who came as a new sophomore transfer in a previous year).

New transfers. Item 1, Item 2, and Item 6 report on new transfers and, therefore, the classification reported is the classification at the time of the transfer.
All transfers. Item 3, Item 4, and Item 5 deal with all transfers regardless of when they arrived, therefore, the classification reported is how the students were classified in the semester specified regardless of how they were classified at the time of the transfer.
Other undergraduates. The group other undergraduates includes all undergraduate admissions except transfers. Most of the other undergraduates were admitted as beginning freshman (first time in college), but there were also a few other types such as those on a temporary one-semester permit (special students and transients, i.e., students enrolled at another institution who received permission to take courses at UNT without formally transferring) and any student for whom the "original admission code" was missing (usually one readmitted as a "former" student).

Of the 2,497 new transfers in fall 1999, about one-half (1,235 or 49.5%) came from five institutions: Dallas County Community College System (573), Tarrant County Junior College (291), Collin County Community College (212), North Central Texas College (97), and University of Texas at Arlington (62). The next 21% of the transfers came from 15 institutions which each contributed 20 or more transfers.
