Introduction
An important element in the universitys efforts to understand and manage its enrollment and to evaluate its effectiveness as an institution of higher education is to examine how and why students stay at the University through graduation. The factors involved in retention and attrition are, of course, too complex to be treated exhaustively in a single study. This report is meant to supplement base-line data published annually in the UNT Fact Book. Comparisons of the findings in this report to those in similar reports for previous years should give a broader understanding of student retention.
This document consists of a executive summary and four appendices, each of which provides analyses of statistical enrollment data, with special attention given to undergraduate students. Each section has been prepared so it can be copied and distributed separately from the others.
Information will be emphasized for the most recent academic year included in the report. However, there is some comparative information for the previous academic year. Tracking information is based on the fall semester for one academic year, with those students tracked to the next fall. The sections are as follows:
