Conclusion:
UNT staff regard UNT as a pleasant, hospitable, and
supportive work environment. UNT
staff place a high priority on students and feel that their work efforts
contribute to meeting the goals of the University.
Increases in productivity are evident by the increases in enrollment,
retention, graduation rates, and budgets. However, this has not occurred without
documented stress levels associated with workloads and supervisory relations.
Assistance in balancing work and family obligations would be beneficial
for some staff. Suggested ideas
included incorporating flextime, telecommuting, and adding some clearly stated
policy regarding the balance of work and family obligations.
Overall, a large portion of the staff are satisfied with their work
assignments and work environment. However,
some of the tools used to document the level of work output and reward system
needs further review. A lower level
of satisfaction was reported with the opportunities for promotion, the staff
evaluation process, and the methods used to determine pay raises.
Improvements in these areas could enhance the work environment because
one out of three employees currently believe that UNT is not committed to making
changes to improve working conditions for staff.
