Table 3 UNT Student, Faculty and Staff Survey Return
Arrival/Departure:Survey results show that approximately 56% of faculty and staff and 30% of students arrived at the Denton campus before 8:00am each day. Another 37% of faculty and staff and 43% of students arrive between the hours of 8:00 am and 10:00 pm each day. Approximately, twenty percent of the students indicated that they did not make a trip to campus on any given day. Based on the survey results, this would indicate that approx. 12,000 faculty, staff, and students are coming to UNT Denton before 10:00 am each day. Forty-eight percent of the students leave the university between before 3:00 pm each day. Another 17% leave the university between 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm. These departure times appear to be independent of arrival time. Sixty-eight percent of the faculty and staff leave between the hours of 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm. Commute Time:The survey indicates that 46% of students and 39% of faculty and staff live less than 5 miles from the Denton campus. However, survey results also indicate that 35% of the students and 19% of faculty and staff travel more than 20 miles in one direction from their home to UNT. When inferred to the UNT population, the commute time for these commuters is in excess of 10,000 hours each day. Survey results show that 32% of the students and 18% of the faculty and staff commute more than 30 minutes to campus. Method of Commute:The most common method of commuting to the UNT campus is by a single passenger vehicle. Fifty-one percent (down from 91% in 2000 transportation survey) of the students and 90% of faculty and staff surveyed, said they commute at least one day per week in a single passenger vehicle. However, 20% of students and 2% of faculty and staff surveyed, said that they walk to UNT. Ten percent of the students indicated that they use e-trans to commute to UNT. The most underutilized method of commuting (.01%) to UNT was by "ride in a vanpool". Few students faculty, or staff commute by carpool with 2 or more people or by vanpool. Approximately five percent of each commute in carpool with one other person. |
