Explanation:

To make this list, each action item from the 1997-2001 IR Strategic Plan was assigned each to a program group. Even though some action items overlap program group areas, only one program group was chosen for each item. To the right of each action item, a few departments are listed. These are the departments which will (a) do most of the work, and/or (b) act as the sponsor for the "project". This too, is not always clear -- for example, even though the DARS project lists Computing Center and Registrar, many others are also involved setting rules, etc. Anyway, the point of listing departments is mostly to give program groups some idea of which items/projects don't have workers or a sponsor (and therefore, the project is more likely to receive less priority or not get done at all).

The purpose of this action item list is so that program groups, through the next two years, can monitor progress. In a few cases, program groups will actually do some of the work (e.g. drafting a policy). If something is not getting done, program group chairs can bring this, at any time, to the attention of Strategic Planning Committee to see what might remedy the situation.

Hopefully, this process will help us to better implement the strategic plan.
