You will need a new I-20 in the following cases. Please consult an international advisor.

  • Initial entry and initial attendance at UNT. You must enter the U.S. with UNT’s I-20 to attend school at UNT.

  • If you have completed IELI or a degree program, and will continue in a new degree program

  • If you left before completing the semester and did not take incompletes

  • If you are out of the U.S. for more than 5 months

  • If you were suspended, we can only issue the I-20 for the semester that you will be allowed to enroll.

  • If you are out of status

  • If you have worked without authorization (illegally)

  • If you are transferring to UNT

  • If you are transferring out of UNT, you will need a new I-20 from the new school.
