What to do if you become sick or are injured
1. Go FIRST to the UNT Student Health and Wellness Center (SHWC) for treatment. Nearly all insurance companies require you to go the SHWC unless it is closed, you are not in Denton, or the medical condition is an emergency.
2. Carry your insurance identification card at all times.
3. Claim deadline: Make your “claim” for Health (medical) Insurance company to pay your medical expenses within 20 days of the injury or the first treatment for sickness. The SHWC will help students file their claims.
4.  Do NOT accept public health care. Non-immigrant students jeopardize their status if they accept any form of free public medical care in the U.S. including medical care for pregnancy or maternity.
