UNT Sponsored Scholarships for Graduate Students

Note:

 
  Graduate students can obtain scholarship applications through the Toulouse School of Graduate Studies or the individual departments, schools and colleges.  Application deadlines for these scholarships vary.  If you are interested in one of the awards described below, please contact the graduate advisor or academic program in the department in which you plan to pursue your doctoral or master’s degree.
    Recipients of Doctoral Fellowships, Master’s Fellowships, or Tuition Scholarships are not eligible for TSGS $1,000 Academic Achievement Scholarships.
     

Academic Achievement Scholarships for all new doctoral students

Purpose   Scholarship in recognition of outstanding academic accomplishments to EACH qualifying new student who begins his or her study in a doctoral program at UNT (Fall or Spring semester).
Field of Study   Any doctoral program at UNT
Eligibility   A student must (1) be accepted unconditionally or conditionally by a UNT doctoral degree program to begin his or her doctoral study either in the Fall semester or in the Spring semester and (2) have completed a master's degree or a minimum of 30 graduate semester credit hours prior to beginning study in the UNT doctoral program. New doctoral students who receive a Toulouse School of Graduate Studies Doctoral Fellowship ($20,000), Master’s Fellowship ($10,000), or a Tuition Scholarship are not eligible for the $1,000 Doctoral Academic Achievement Scholarship.
    Students who do NOT meet the above criteria:
New students who have not completed either a master's degree or a minimum of 30 graduate semester credit hours prior to beginning study in a UNT doctoral program may be awarded a $1,000 scholarship jointly funded by TSGS and the student's academic department, provided sufficient joint funding is available, and the department notifies TSGS.
Award   $1000
Deadline   Apply for admission as early as possible to secure this automatic award.
Application  

Students do NOT have to apply for the Academic Achievement Scholarship. Once a student is admitted to a doctoral program, TSGS determines eligibility. If a student is eligible for the scholarship, an award letter will automatically be mailed to the student.

     

Doctoral Fellowships (US $ 20,000)

Purpose   Scholarship program to support new doctoral students at UNT.
Field of Study   Any doctoral program offered by UNT.
Eligibility   New doctoral students are eligible for a Toulouse School of Graduate Studies Doctoral Fellowship. To qualify for these awards, new doctoral students must not have taken graduate courses at UNT that can apply to the doctoral degree program prior to awarding of a Doctoral Fellowship. Doctoral students must either (1) hold a completed master’s degree or (2) have completed 30 graduate semester hours for credit. Recipients must enroll for a minimum of twelve (12) graduate semester hours during each long semester and for a minimum of six (6) graduate semester hours over the entire summer.
Award   Doctoral Fellowships provide $20,000 for one year.
Deadline   No set deadline. Apply as early as possible.
Application  

Academic areas to which students apply for admission to doctoral or master’s degree programs submit nominations for Doctoral Fellowships, Master’s Fellowships, or Tuition Scholarships to the academic schools and colleges. After the schools and colleges determine the awardees, the awardees’ names are submitted to the Graduate School, which will determine that the awardees meet the criteria for the award. The Graduate School then notifies recipients that they have been awarded a Doctoral Fellowship, Master’s Fellowship, or Tuition Scholarship.

     
Master’s Fellowships (US $ 10,000)
Purpose   Scholarship program to support new master’s students at UNT
Field of Study   Any master’s program offered by UNT.
Eligibility   New master’s students are eligible for a Toulouse School of Graduate Studies Master's Fellowship. To qualify for these awards, new master’s students must not have taken graduate courses at UNT that can apply to the master’s degree program prior to awarding of a Master’s Fellowship. Recipients must enroll for a minimum of nine (9) graduate semester hours during each long semester and for a minimum of six (6) graduate semester hours over the entire summer.
Award   Master’s Fellowships provide $10,000 for one year.
Deadline   No set deadline. Apply as early as possible.
Application

Tuition Scholarships
Purpose   To qualify for a Tuition Scholarship, new doctoral or new master’s students must meet the same criteria as those for Doctoral Fellowships or for Master’s Fellowships, respectively. Recipients must enroll for a minimum of nine (9) graduate semester hours during each long semester and for a minimum of six (6) graduate semester hours over the entire summer.
