Capers Jones is Chief Scientist Emeritus of Artemis Management Systems and also of Software Productivity Research (SPR) which merged with Artemis in 1998. SPR is located in Burldington, Massachusetts. Mr. Jones is the designer of several software cost and quality estimation tools including SPQR/20™, the first commercial software estimating tool to use function points as the basis for sizing source code and other deliverables such as specifications and user documents. He also designed Checkpoint®, an integrated measurement and estimation tool with powerful quality estimation features. SPR also developed the KnowledgePLANÒ estimation and project planning tool under Mr. Jones’ overall direction.

Mr. Jones was formerly at the ITT Programming Technology Center in Stratford, Connecticut where he was Assistant Director of Programming Technology.
Prior to joining ITT Mr. Jones was at IBM for a twelve-year period in both research and managerial positions He received the IBM General Product Division's outstanding contribution award for his work in software quality and productivity improvement methods.
Mr. Jones started his software career as a programmer in the Office of the Surgeon General in Washington DC. He then became a programmer/analyst for Crane Company in Chicago. He has also consulted for Nolan, Norton & Company in Lexington, Mass.
Mr. Jones is a graduate of the University of Florida, where he became interested in the application of linguistics to programming specification and design languages. Mr. Jones is a member of the IEEE Computer Society and the International Function Point Users Group (IFPUG). |
