Every time an airplane takes off, thousands of people have worked behind the scenes to execute its departure. How would you like to be one of them?
A Bachelor of Science degree in Aviation Logistics from the University of North Texas prepares you for a career in this exciting field. Our program is the first four-year degree of its kind offered in the Dallas-Fort Worth region.
Whether it involves passengers or cargo, aviation logistics — the ability to quickly and reliably move valuable resources great distances — improves the quality of life for people worldwide. Any business that moves people or cargo through the air, and those companies that support them, can be a potential employer.
Career opportunities and average salaries in the field range from cargo handling supervisor ($53,860) to transportation manager ($93,830) to airport chief executive ($161,230).
In the Department of Marketing and Logistics, we provide you a much broader perspective of aviation and logistics than what’s available in aviation programs at other universities. The curriculum has been developed in consultation with the Dallas/Fort Worth Roundtable of the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals, the National Business Aviation Association, the North Central Texas Council of Governments and industry professionals in aviation and aerospace.
Our program takes a unique approach to creating the next generation of aviation industry leaders. While many aviation programs focus on the operations or manufacturing aspects of aviation, our curriculum focuses on the value of integrating aviation and aerospace activities to move people and cargo. We also provide a variety of leadership opportunities through projects and a required internship.

You can meet other students who share your interest in aviation logistics through the Student Aviation Association. Additional leadership opportunities are available through the student chapters of the American Association of Airport Executives, the Alpha Eta Rho international aviation fraternity, and student-organized networking and faculty-managed professional development activities. These activities include industry field trips, guest speakers and career fairs.

The College of Business’ Professional Leadership Program works with corporate partners throughout the region to get you the skills needed to be competitive in the workforce.

Our Business Leadership Building promotes interaction among students, faculty and industry leaders. The building — which has Gold-level Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification — contains 24 classrooms, team study rooms and a state-of- the-art computer lab. This building helps distinguish us as a leader in business education.
In addition to completing the university’s core curriculum, you will enroll in:
Aviation course work covers a range of topics including air cargo and air passenger operations planning, aviation law and public policy, aviation maintenance and safety, and an overview of the aviation industry. Logistics course work examines business transportation management and global logistics management.
A 240-clock-hour approved internship is required after completing at least two core courses. Paid internships are available from a variety of local firms that focus on logistics and supply chain processes.
Our Career Center and professional academic advisors are among the many valuable resources that are available to you at UNT. The Career Center can provide advice about internships, future employment opportunities and getting hands-on experience in your major. Academic advisors will help you plan your class schedule each semester.
High school students We encourage you to fulfill the graduation requirements for the Texas Recommended or Distinguished Achievement Program or the equivalent in high school. You should take four years of mathematics in high school, including pre-calculus.
In your junior year, take the SAT or the ACT and have your scores sent to UNT.
In your senior year, apply for admission at www.applytexas.org by March 1 and request that your high school transcript be sent to the UNT admissions office.
Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate courses can count toward college credit at UNT. If you take AP Calculus in high school, you should take the AP exam, as well. A good score on the exam will allow you to get a head start on your math classes at UNT. For more details about AP and IB courses, visit www.unt.edu/credit.
If you’re attending a Texas community college, you should consult our Transfer Articulation web page, the UNT Undergraduate Catalog and an academic counselor/advisor to review your degree plan. We recommend taking at least one mathematics class every semester while at your community college and taking rigorous science and computer programming classes appropriate for math, science and engineering majors.
As a general rule, science classes not intended for math and science majors will not count toward a mathematics degree. Proper planning will help you receive the maximum amount of transfer credits.
Our Transfer Center will help you make a successful transition to college life at UNT by connecting you with a peer mentor and other campus resources. More than 3,500 students transfer to UNT each year. The center is in the University Union, Room 320. More information is at transition.unt.edu.
