What we offer

Our rigorous curriculum gives you an in-depth understanding of areas related to life and property insurance and financial services. Armed with this knowledge, you will have a competitive advantage over other new hires and be on the fast track into an upper-level position.

Faculty members in the Department of Finance, Insurance, Real Estate and Law are experienced professionals and dedicated teachers who exercise a “learn today, apply tomorrow” classroom philosophy.

Our students have also earned scholarships awarded by local chapters of the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters Society, Risk and Insurance Management Society, and the Insurance Council of Texas.

The student-led Risk, Insurance and Financial Services Club works closely with industry leaders in the Dallas-Fort Worth region and Texas to offer you real-world opportunities. You can interact with industry professionals at the club’s numerous functions and networking events.

This means the college meets or exceeds strict academic standards for excellence in education.

Our new, eco-friendly Business Leadership Building accommodates 8,000 students and promotes interaction among students, faculty and industry leaders. The building — which is seeking LEED Gold certification — contains 24 classrooms, team study rooms and a state-of-the-art general access computer lab. This helps distinguish us as a leader in business education.

What to expect

Your class schedule at UNT for the first few semesters will consist of university core courses and required pre-business courses. From there, you will take 24 semester hours of business foundation courses and 30 semester hours of risk, insurance and financial services courses and supporting courses. The course work will focus on areas such as:

• Estate planning
• Life insurance
• Principles of risk management
• Property and liability insurance
• The financial effects of risk on businesses and nonprofit organizations

Our Career Center, Internships and Cooperative Education office, and professional academic advisors are among the many valuable resources that will help you while enrolled at UNT. The Career Center and the Internships and Cooperative Education office can provide advice about future employment opportunities as well as getting hands-on experience in your major. Academic advisors will help you plan your class schedule each semester.

How to enroll at UNT

High school students

We encourage you to fulfill the graduation requirements for the Recommended Program or the Distinguished Achievement Program in high school. In your junior year, take the SAT or the ACT and have your scores sent to UNT.

In your senior year, apply for admission at www.applytexas.org by March 1 and request that your high school transcript be sent to the UNT admissions office.

Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate courses can count toward college credit at UNT. For details, visit www.unt.edu/credit.

Transfer students

If you're attending a Texas community college, you should consult our Transfer Articulation web page, the UNT Undergraduate Catalog and an academic counselor/advisor to review your degree plan. Proper planning allows you to receive the maximum amount of transfer credits.

Our Transfer Center will help you make a successful transition to college life at UNT by connecting you to a peer mentor and other campus resources.
