Our musical performances range from concerts by student groups to those featuring internationally known artists. The college presents more than 1,000 programs each year. Many of the events are held in the Murchison Performing Arts Center, which houses the 1,000-seat Winspear Performance Hall and the 400- seat Lyric Theatre. Other concert venues are:

If you performed in a high school ensemble, you may want to audition for one of our vocal or instrumental ensembles. Being a music major is not required for performing in our ensembles.
Auditions are held the week before classes begin each fall and spring semester. You can earn 1 elective credit hour toward your bachelor’s degree while in an ensemble, which rehearses from four to six hours each week.
Several ensembles perform on national and international tours and release recordings.
Courses focusing on music appreciation, music theory, 19th- and 20th-century music, and world music cultures are available to all students. These courses fulfill the visual and performing arts, humanities or discovery requirements of the university’s core curriculum. Based on availability and with permission from the college, you can also enroll in applied lessons for 1 credit hour. More information about enrolling in a music course or taking applied lessons is available by contacting the College of Music’s Undergraduate Advising Office at 940-565-3860.
We encourage you to fulfill the graduation requirements for the Texas Recommended or Distinguished Achievement Program or the equivalent in high school.
In your junior year, take the SAT or ACT and have your scores sent to UNT.
In your senior year, apply for admission at Apply Texas by March 1 and request that your high school transcript be sent to the UNT admissions office.
Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate courses can count toward college credit at UNT.
If you’re attending a Texas community college, you should consult our online transfer guides, the UNT Undergraduate Catalog and an academic counselor or advisor to review your degree plan. Proper planning will allow you to receive the maximum amount of transfer credits.
