Nontraditional Students

Nontraditional students

At the University of North Texas, we offer many options to nontraditional students, allowing you to balance your academic schedule around job and family responsibilities. Seeking a degree may be more challenging for you because you are older than the typical college student, work full or part time and likely have children or other family obligations. UNT can help you meet that challenge.

Services/Resources

After-hours services

During the fall and spring semesters, several of our campus offices have extended hours to assist you.

The Extended Hours Desk, housed in the registrar's office on the first floor of the Eagle Student Services Center, can help you order transcripts, check your account balances or accept financial aid paperwork, among other services. The desk is open from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays. More information is available at essc.unt.edu/hours.html.

The Dean of Students office and the Student Activities Center, each located in Room 320 of the University Union, are open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

Financial aid and scholarships

Our Student Financial Aid and Scholarships office can help you find grants, college work study and loans that will aid in paying for your college education. The first step in this process is to complete the online Free Application for Federal Student Aid at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Scholarships are available by completing the General Academic Scholarship application at essc.unt.edu/finaid/scholarships.htm. More information about financial aid options is at essc.unt.edu/finaid/finaid_overview.htm.

Employment

During the fall and spring semesters, about 3,500 of our students have on-campus jobs. The jobs include assistantships and fellowships.

Each semester, the Career Center in Chestnut Hall posts available on-campus and off-campus jobs and hosts job fairs that are attended by more than 200 employers. The center's Eagle Network is an online system where you can view job openings. First-time users will need to contact the Career Center in person or by e-mail to obtain a password.
