One of the great strengths of UNT is that it serves both the traditional entering students and a diverse mix of "metropolitan students". This diverse group of students makes for a dynamic campus environment and fun college experience for all students. On-campus and convenient affordable off-campus housing must continue to be addressed as UNT grows.
  • Keep a strong presence of on-campus and close to campus housing for traditional students, adult and married students, and faculty. Affordable student housing helps to eliminate one of the barriers to higher education access. Close to campus housing also minimizes parking demand and congestion.
  • Increase the number of on-campus beds from 4,000 to 6,000 by year 2015.
  • Continue the phased in upgrades of existing student housing to include state of the art access to the UNT computer and information networks.
  • Continue to encourage well-maintained private housing near the campus. Encourage private / public partnerships to increase student housing.
  • Sororities and fraternities are important elements of the college experience for some students. The redevelopment area to the southeast of the campus is an appropriate area for sororities and fraternities to keep them close to the campus, but not in the campus core.
