The J. Walkers crowned North Texas Battle of the Bands winner
Fort-Worth based band The J. Walkers won the North Texas Battle of the Bands (presented by the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus) on Feb. 29, earning a day-long professional recording session to make an audio recording and a music video aboard the bus, which is a nonprofit mobile recording studio.
The spoils of battle
In addition to winning the recording session, each J. Walker member got an Apple iPod Shuffle and free entry into the John Lennon Songwriting Contest with the opportunity to win the songwriting contest grand prize of $20,000.
By winning the battle, The J. Walkers may now also compete in the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus National Battle of the Bands, in which the band could win a spot performing on its local Warped Tour stage.
Keep the music going
During the concert, Battle of the Bands organizers announced a $10,000 donation from Lone Star Attitude Inc. and the Texas Music Project to resurrect UNT's Start Up the Band program to provide musical instruments and instruction to fifth-grade students with high financial need.
While the bus was in town, Denton-based Snarky Puppy spent Feb. 27 recording audio and video for a single aboard the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus. The video's world premiere screening was held that evening in the University Union Syndicate.
