UNT hosts Women in Business Week Sept. 10 – 14
Laura Wright, Southwest Airlines chief financial officer and UNT alumna will be the 2007 speaker for the College of Business Administration's distinguished lecture series Sept. 14, capping off the university's Women in Business week.
COBA chose "Women in Business" as the theme for this year's distinguished lecture series and has built an entire week's worth of events around the concept. In addition to Wright's lecture, events include a panel discussion featuring various female business leaders from the Metroplex and the Professor for a Day program.
Wright, who earned bachelor's and master's degrees with an emphasis in taxation from UNT in 1982 will give her free lecture at 10 a.m. in the University Union Golden Eagle Suite. She is a certified public accountant in the state of Texas and was recently recognized by Institutional Investor magazine as a top leader in 2007.
Being a women in business
"Lately, the news has brought a lot of attention to the wage disparities between genders in the workforce," said Julie Willems-Espinoza, external relations officer in COBA. "It's important that our female graduates, especially those receiving business degrees, understand what they can expect."
Espinoza points out that all the guest lecturers featured in Women in Business Week have done a lot toward "workwise balancing."
"These women often speak about what it is like to leave the workforce, come back and still hold their high positions," she said. "This event will make female students aware that it can be done because these very successful business women have found a way to do it."

The Sept. 10 panel discussion will include three speakers:
• Fran Eichorst, vice president of human resources and general manager of Fidelity Investments
