UNT adds new e-ride service

e-rideWorking with UNT's Student Government Association, UNT has added a new program beginning Jan. 13 to provide students with safe, night-time rides anywhere on the main or Eagle Point campuses.

The e-ride service is provided seven days a week to all current students who need a ride to and from any place on the UNT campus between 9 p.m. and 2 a.m. The e-ride mini busses seat 14 passengers, will be clearly marked with UNT emblems, include lift equipment and have direct communication with dispatchers.

How e-ride works

To use e-ride:

Call the e-ride line at (940) 565-3014

Give your first name, requested pick up location and destination

Wait up to 10 minutes for the mini bus to arrive

Show a valid student ID to board

Sit back and enjoy the ride

Other students can board the bus at the pick-up location by showing a valid student ID. E-ride drivers will wait 5 minutes for the original caller to board before departing.

When possible, drivers will wait at destinations to make sure passengers safely enter their buildings or vehicles.

Faculty and staff may also use the e-ride service by showing a current UNT ID.

A cooperative effort

The e-ride program is the result of discussions last fall between Transportation Services and the Student Government Association.

Shana Gooch, director of marketing, promotions and public relations for Student Government, says safety and communication on campus are two of the organization's main objectives. She says the group wanted to take the idea of UNT's police escort services a step further and offer a program allowing students to be dropped off and picked up anywhere on campus.
