Information for Displaced Students

Becoming a UNT student

The extended deadline for regular admission to UNT has passed. Students displaced by Hurricane Katrina still may still be admitted to enroll in UNT's online courses. UNT will assist students with admission and enrollment on a case-by-case basis since each student's needs are unique. All fees associated with applying to the university will be waived. Call the Undergraduate Office of Admissions toll-free at (800) UNT-8211 or (940) 565-2681, or the Graduate School at (940) 565-2636, for more information. Please identify yourself as a displaced student when contacting UNT.

The regular admissions deadline to enroll for the spring semester is Nov. 15 for graduate students and Dec. 1 for undergraduate students. Find more information about admissions >>

Distance Learning

Once admitted to UNT, students displaced by Hurricane Katrina may register through Sept. 16 for online classes created specifically for them. Classes can be accessed from any computer connected to the Web, are 100 percent available online, require no prerequisites and are considered highly transferable among universities. Classes begin Sept. 19 and end Dec. 16.

In addition, UNT is offering one free course online as part of the Sloan Semester, starting Oct. 10.  Enrollment in ART 1300 Art Appreciation is limited to a maximum of 15 students affected by Hurricane Katrina. For more information, visit www.sloansemester.org/student. A searchable list of online courses at participating universities is available.

The Sloan Semester is offered by the Sloan Consortium, a group of institutions and organizations committed to online education.

Katrina scholarships and other financial aid

Once enrolled, you should contact UNT Student Accounting at 940.565.4481.
