Merchandising students pick top 10 gifts for 2007

Twenty-five students in a UNT Merchandising Strategies graduate-level course compiled a list of the hottest gifts for the 2007 holiday season. Their picks are based on their research of internet gift lists, gift-buying articles, their monitoring of media and anecdotal input from individuals.

1. Game Consoles/Video Games
Including Xbox, Wii, Playstation 3, Guitar Hero, Rockband, SingStar

2. MP3 Player/Accessories
Such as Zune, iPod, docks, chargers, bases

3. GPS (Global Positioning System) Devices
For example TomTom and Garmin

4. Digital Photo Frames with memory and/or wireless capabilities

5. Cell Phones
Like Nokia Smart Phone, iPhone, teen and kid phones like the LG Migo

6. Jewelry
Timeless favorites include diamond jewelry, earrings, anything from Tiffany

7. Toy dolls/figures
Popular choices include superheroes, Bratz, Barbie, Spiderman, Elmo, Transformers, American Girl

8. HDTV’s and accessories
Such as 1080p flat screens, DVD’s, DVD recorders

9. Beauty Items
Favorites like perfume, cologne, makeup, nail polish

10. Gift Cards
Not only can you can purchase gift cards at a specific retailer to be used on purchases from that retailer, major grocery chains like Wal-Mart, Kroger and Albertsons sell a variety of gift cards for restaurants and other retailers in several denominations.
