UNT annually celebrates its re-birth as a university on University Day
UNT will celebrate University Day April 4 with a free picnic and festival including live music, carnival events and concessions. This celebration will include the annual Faculty Staff Picnic for the first time as a way to honor the role UNT's employees play in shaping the university.
The annual celebration was first held in 1961, when North Texas State College became North Texas State University, and has continued to be celebrated each spring.
This year activities are from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in UNT's Library Mall in the heart of the Denton campus.
Free boxed lunches and bottled water will be given away to the first 4,000 people who arrive and an additional 500 vegetarian lunches will be available for those who request them. Regular boxed lunches consist of turkey sandwiches, chips and a cookie. The vegetarian option is a meat-free veggie sandwich, chips and a cookie.
In case of rain, the event will be in the One O'Clock Lounge in the University Union.
If you would like to order a free balloon bouquet of green and white balloons to decorate your office for University Day, contact Tiffany Roussel at tiffany.roussel@unt.edu by March 28.
