The Mary Ardens sent out 800 invitations. … A chapter of Pi Gamma Mu, a national science honor society, was established at the teachers college. … The debating team broke all records for the college by closing the season 15-7. The four men’s teams ended the season 9-4, and the two women’s teams ended the season 6-3. … About 2,700 students enrolled for the summer term, exceeding all previous records.

The Campus Chat newspaper won 23 All-American awards, receiving 20 ratings of “excellent” and three of “very good” in the overall evaluation. … The Eagle sprinters gained their fourth straight 880-relay victory at the Kansas Meet. … Students received free chest X-rays from the Denton Tuberculosis Association. The X-rays were part of a program to help identify and treat cases of tuberculosis. The previous year, out of 4,067 students examined, five cases were found. … The Morgan twins, Betty and Sue, presented a weekly variety show intended to increase North Texas spirit, especially among townspeople.

Without artificial stimulants or outside assistance, KNTU disc jockey Guy Johnson stayed awake 86 hours during the Easter holiday hosting a rock music marathon, beating the 30 hours previously put in by two North Texas students. Johnson began the marathon at 9 a.m. Thursday and continued until 1 a.m. Monday. He was back at work Monday afternoon. … Alvin Crenshaw led the North Texas track team to first place in the fourth annual Carl Babcock Memorial at Fouts Field. North Texas won seven events and placed in 14 others, with Crenshaw winning the 880 and the 220. … Enrollment for summer school exceeded expectations with 7,948 students enrolled.

The art department was renamed the School of Visual Arts, one of the largest such schools at a public university. … Craig Brown and his mother, Lillian, discussed sharing a dorm in the North Texas Daily. Both Craig and his mother lived in Maple Hall, with Craig on the first floor and his mother on the third. Lillian was attending a three-week workshop in biology. … The artwork of alum Barret DeBush (’86) was featured prominently in the movie Housesitter. Among his pieces was the stone and steel sculpture in front of the Art Building on Mulberry Street. … The Two O’Clock Lab Band was named the best jazz big band for 1992 by Down Beat magazine.
