Marian Mapes-Bouck, Laytonville, Calif., lives with her pets on a 20-acre rancheria, which she has been repairing since her husband’s death in 2004. She has returned to singing as a church soloist and formerly served on the board of the Long Beach Regional Arts Council and as an organizer for Hospital Audiences Inc. She was in the first opera workshop at North Texas in 1948 and later initiated the classical music programming on Dallas radio station WRR-FM and sang with the Dallas Lyric Opera. She moved to Houston to work and perform, and says the flip of a coin took her to California.

Luther McDaniel, Kerrville, retired in 1990 after 36 years as a personnel director (civilian) with the U.S. Air Force. He married his high school sweetheart, Joyce, after graduation and now is involved in various volunteer activities and pursuing his passion for golf.

*Sam Akins and *Malta Evans Akins (’54), North Richland Hills, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on May 8, 2005. Malta retired from Irving High School in 1995 and Sam retired from banking in 1998. After residing in Irving for 45 years, they built a retirement home in North Richland Hills near their children and grandchildren. They attended their Golden Eagles 50th reunion at UNT’s Homecoming and encourage others to do the same, saying “UNT makes it a very special luncheon and reception.”

Billy G. Foster (’62 M.S.), Kyle, retired as Professor Emeritus of microbiology and immunology at Texas A&M. He and his wife, Betty C. Clements Foster (’54), moved first to Tyler and then south of Austin to be near three of their children. They welcome mail from former class members at
