Steven Hale Selby
, Denton, received the Percy Penn Award, the highest award presented by the Dallas Football Officials Association. He is the director of the UNT Coliseum. His wife, Kay Martin Selby (’70), is the director of academic publications at UNT.

Bettie Gray House
, Warwick, R.I., was promoted to staff editor of the Christian Science Sentinel, a weekly magazine of the First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston. She’s published articles and poems in the Sentinel, as well as pieces in the Christian Science Journal and the Christian Science Monitor.

Steven Paxton
(’77 M.M.), Lubbock, completed a new opera, Bellini’s War, which was premiered in October by the Texas Tech University Music Theatre. He is an associate professor of music and chair of the division of theory and composition at Texas Tech. At North Texas he was a composition student of William Latham.

Joan Baumgartner Battleson Hosaka
, La Mesa, Calif., has been appointed district librarian for the La Mesa-Spring Valley school district, which has 22 schools with libraries. She received her master’s degree in library science from California State University at Los Angeles and previously served as district librarian for the Lemon Grove school district.

Cynthia Byars
, Dallas, was named vice president of Staffelbach Design Associates of Dallas. Her responsibilities include project direction and strategic facilities planning. She received National Council for Interior Design Qualification accreditation in 1979.

Randy E. Pruett, Dallas, has been designated a certified association executive by the American Society of Association Executives. He is vice president of corporate relations and strategic planning for the Texas Credit Union League.

Mark Hightower
, Richardson, has been named the city of Richardson’s chief building official. Hightower has been with the city since 1981 when he started his municipal career as a building inspector. He and his wife, Marilyn, have two children, Hunter and Anne.

Ian D. Pierce, Dallas, has been elected the 2002 president for the Dallas chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators, a professional organization for corporate communications professionals. Pierce is the director of corporate communications for the Weitzman Group/Cencor Realty Services, a statewide commercial real estate services firm.

Alan Cheney
(’90 Ph.D.), St. Louis, was elected to the board of directors of Women’s Support and Community Services in St. Louis. The organization offers help to women who have been victimized by violence.
