Landladies of the college were asked to call the school to enter a contest for most attractive yard and a $5 award. … An August watermelon feast was held for senior students. … A 1932 Campus Chat article offered accepted theories for "why teachers fail." Among the reasons: political, religious and factual disturbances; outside social interests; the absence of "eligibles" in a teacher's social life; and lack of industry.
