Fans tore down the goal post at Fouts Field Oct. 13 after the Mean Green Homecoming win over Middle Tennessee, 24-21. The victory ended the season's five-game losing streak and began a five-game winning streak that resulted in a share of the Sun Belt Conference championship and a postseason appearance in the New Orleans Bowl.

Momma's Red Hot Chili Team took top honors in showmanship at the third annual Eagle Fire Chili Cookoff Oct. 19. The Lady Eagles celebrated after winning the last home soccer game of the season Oct. 21. The 1-0 victory over South Alabama assured them of a share of the regular season Sun Belt Conference title. They went on to win the regular season title outright, posting a 7-1 conference record.

About 300 children showed up in their Halloween finery for UNT's annual Boo Bash carnival Oct. 30 in the University Union. Ed Turney, assistant director of financial aid, brought his two daughters, Mia (left) and Skylar (right), for a night of fun and games.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry came to the UNT campus Nov. 8 to learn more about UNT's Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science. He visited with TAMS students on his tour of McConnell Hall.

Swathi Dhoopati was one of several UNT students who performed dances and music from the Indian subcontinent Nov. 10 during Diwali 2001. Attendees of the annual cultural extravaganza sponsored by the India Students Association were treated to a variety show followed by an Indian vegetarian dinner in Clark Hall.
