Noyce Scholarship Recipients 2006

Andrew Alvarez

Andrew is currently a senior seeking a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics. He is seeking certification in mathematics and possibly Russian, and expects to graduate in the fall of 2006.

Lauren Murphy

Lauren is currently a senior seeking a Bachelor of Arts in Biology. S he has helped several animal welfare organizations such as the Humane Society of North Texas. She is seeking certification in life science, and expects to graduate in the spring of 2006.

Heather Rooth

Heather is currently a senior seeking a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, with a minor in Chemistry. She provides mathematics tutoring at the UNT Learning Center, as well as independent tutoring for private individuals. She is seeking certification in mathematics, chemistry, physics, kinesiology, and Spanish, and expects to graduate in the spring of 2007.

Sonia Sanchez

Sonia is currently a senior seeking a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics. She has provided independent tutoring throughout her college career, and has volunteered for organizations such as the Mexican-American Alliance at UNT. She is seeking certification in mathematics, and expects to graduate in the spring of 2007.

Sarah Baillio

Sarah is currently a senior seeking a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry. She has provided volunteer services for the Trinity Lighthouse Church. She is seeking certification in physical sciences, and hopes to teach chemistry. She expects to graduate in the spring of 2007.

Melissa Baird

Melissa is currently seeking her Master’s degree in Biology. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology from Texas Tech University. She currently teaches elementary ages at the Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary. She is seeking certification in biology/life sciences, and expects to receive her degree in the fall of 2008.

Christie Caldwell

Christie is currently seeking certification in Biology. She received dual Bachelor of Arts degrees in Biology and Psychology from The University of Texas at Dallas. She is presently a Pre-AP Chemistry teacher in Plano, Texas, and she has provided mentoring services to children and teenagers through several organizations. She hopes to teach science, and expects to receive her certification in the fall of 2006.

Erin Clark

Erin is currently a senior seeking a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences. She has been very active in providing chaperone and other youth group services for school organizations. She is seeking certification in science, and expects to graduate in the fall of 2006 or spring of 2007.

Adriana Fonzo

Adriana is currently a senior seeking a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics. She has provided independent mathematics tutoring at times. She is seeking certification in mathematics, and is interested in teaching advanced placement classes for algebra, calculus, and pre-calculus. She expects to graduate in the spring 2007.

Sarah Gorena

Sarah is currently a senior seeking a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics. She has provided several volunteer tutoring services, and is also a tutor in the UNT Math Tutor Lab. She is seeking certification in mathematics, and expects to graduate in the fall of 2006 or spring of 2007.

Casey Harl

Casey is currently seeking his Master’s degree in Education. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, with a minor in Mathematics, from Texas A&M University. He has taught a variety of subjects, from computer literacy to Bible studies. He is seeking certification in mathematics, and expects to receive his degree in 2008.

Denise Karowski

Denise is currently seeking her Master’s degree in Biological Sciences. She has been involved in several organizations to assist youth in their learning experiences, and was also a member of Phi Theta Kappa. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences from UNT, and is currently certified in secondary education life science. She hopes to expand her certification to include science and mathematics.

Lori Kasparek

Lori is currently a junior seeking a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics. She provides supplemental teaching for the UNT Learning Center, and has provided help to several youth group organizations. She is seeking certification in mathematics, and expects to graduate in the spring of 2008.

Gerald Maxwell

Gerald is currently seeking certification in Physical Science. He received his PhD in Electrical Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin. Prior to that he received his Master of Science degree in Physics from The University of Texas at El Paso. He has been teaching a variety of subjects for thirty years, at the college level as well as the junior high and high school level. He expects to receive his certification in the fall of 2006.

Jessica Beckham

Jessica is currently seeking her Master's degree in Biology. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from The University of Texas at Austin. She has taught for the University of North Texas College of Education and Biological Sciences Department. She is seeking certification in Life Sciences, and expects to receive her degree in the spring of 2007.

Tayla Fulcher

Tayla is currently a junior seeking a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology. She has provided volunteer services in various community settings. She is seeking certification in Life Sciences and expects to graduate in the spring of 2008.

Jeana McLaughlin

Jeana just recently received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology. She tutors Calculus and Algebra classes, among other volunteer services. She is seeking certification in Life Science, and graduated in the summer of 2006.

Samantha Swinney

Samantha is currently a junior seeking a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics. She has worked with many different volunteer groups including Teacher Academy club at North Lake College and LIFT. She is seeking certification in mathematics, and expects to graduate in the spring 2008.

Deserae May

Deserae is currently a senior seeking a Bachelor of Arts in Biology. She plans on pursuing a Masters in Biology and she is planning on getting teacher certified by the fall of 2007. She has tutored elementary students, but she is currently tutoring seventh and tenth graders. She is seeking certification in life science, and expects to graduate in the spring of 2007.

Jose Cordero

Jose is currently a junior seeking a Bachelor of Arts in Biology. He is currently providing independent tutoring and helps students with science fair projects. He is seeking certification in life science, and expects to graduate in the spring 2009.

Ronald Bohannon

Ronald is currently seeking his Master’s degree in Biology. He is currently teaching at Little Elm High School. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from The University of North Texas.

Leigh Taylor

Leigh is currently a senior seeking a Bachelors of Art in Biology. She has been a tutor and worked as a volunteer in different science educational settings. She is seeking certification in Biology and plans to graduate fall of 2008.

Fallon Fletcher

Fallon is currently a junior seeking a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. She volunteers as a tutor through Communities in Schools of North Texas at Denton High School, and she also provides tutoring in the UNT Math Lab. Fallon is seeking secondary certification in mathematics and expects to graduate in the spring of 2009.
