College of Business Administration
The University of North Texas offers bachelor of business administration degree programs and bachelor of science degree programs in the College of Business Administration. Both degrees will provide you with the background and professional skills needed for a business career, in addition to the specialized training you will receive in a particular field. The degrees also may prepare you to open your own business or enter a graduate program.
Alumni of the College of Business Administration include chief executive officers of major international and national companies, successful entrepreneurs, partners in accounting and law firms, bank presidents, and leaders of nonprofit organizations.
UNT's College of Business Administration is one of the largest business colleges in the nation and is accredited by AACSB International — The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (777 South Harbour Island Blvd., Suite 750, Tampa, Fla. 33602, telephone 813-769-6500). This accreditation means the college has passed strict academic standards for excellence in education.
The college offers more than 30 degree programs for the 5,800 undergraduate and graduate students in the departments of:
You may choose to study decision sciences, entrepreneurship, finance, financial services, marketing, organizational behavior and human resource management, operations and supply chain management, risk management and insurance, general business, economics, or real estate while pursuing a B.B.A. degree.
In addition to taking courses in your area of study, you will need to complete general business core courses to earn this degree. These courses focus on basic information systems, business communication, business law, business policy, general finance, management and marketing principles, and statistical analysis.
While pursuing a B.S. degree, you may choose to study accounting, accounting control systems, business computer information systems, or logistics and supply chain management. The accounting program also offers a five-year combined bachelor's and master's degree program. Although the B.S. is a more technical and specialized degree than the B.B.A., you will be required to complete the same general business courses required of B.B.A. students.
As a student in any business degree program, you may complete an internship with a company in the Dallas-Fort Worth region for 3 hours of course credit.
There are several business organizations that you may join. Delta Sigma Pi is a professional fraternity organized to foster the study of business, to provide social activities for business students, to promote high business practices and standards, and to give students networking opportunities with business professionals. UNT's chapter, which began in 1954, sponsors several activities each month, and members may post their resumes on the chapter's web site.
Phi Chi Theta is another national business fraternity. Founded in 1956, the UNT chapter is open to all business students who have completed at least 12 hours and have a minimum 2.8 cumulative GPA. The chapter encourages students in their study of business and provides them with a social outlet and networking opportunities. Activities have included field trips to major businesses in the Dallas-Fort Worth region, speakers from top industries, pledge retreats, banquets and opportunities for community service.
UNT also has a chapter of the Hispanic Business Student Association, which offers networking opportunities with business professionals from international corporations. The chapter meets every two weeks.
If you are a high school student, we suggest you prepare for college by becoming computer proficient and taking:
You will need to take courses in most of these subjects under the university core curriculum required of all undergraduates, in addition to your major courses. Talk with your high school counselor about preparing for college, including the entrance exams (SAT Reasoning Test or ACT) that you should take during your junior year.
As a benefit for transfer students, UNT participates in the Texas Common Course Numbering System. This system makes it easier to transfer credits for general academic courses from one Texas institution to another.
If you're attending a Texas community college, you should consult the UNT Transfer Guide, UNT Undergraduate Catalog and an academic counselor/advisor to discuss your degree plan. Proper planning will help you receive the maximum amount of transfer credits.
You may declare your intention to study any area of business upon enrolling at UNT, although you are encouraged to first visit with an advisor in the College of Business Administration. The advisor will help determine if a degree in business is right for you and will help you select a field of study. The academic advising office is in the Business Administration Building, Room 123.
