Undergraduate Majors and Interests
Do you want to become a strong leader? Are you interested in a challenging and exciting career in the Air Force? Want to experience once-in-a-lifetime opportunities? You should join the Air Force ROTC program at the University of North Texas.
Many careers in the Air Force do not require a specific academic major. Potential career fields include:
Through the Department of Aerospace Studies, we help you grow mentally and physically so you stand out from fellow students and other graduates. Two-, three- and four-year options are available.
You can participate in the program for up to two years with no obligation to serve unless you are awarded a scholarship or contract with the Air Force. Other opportunities include:
We provide specialized aerospace courses and laboratories that complement your general course work. Our aerospace courses and laboratories fulfill elective requirements within your particular degree program.
Once you earn your UNT degree and complete the ROTC program, you will be commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Air Force.
You will progress through the program in the following stages:
You will also enroll in a leadership laboratory that allows you to participate in leadership discussions and exercises with other ROTC members.
As an incoming freshman, you may receive a four-year scholarship based on your SAT or ACT scores, recommendations from high school teachers, extracurricular activities, high school grades, and an interview with an Air Force representative. You must apply for the scholarship before Dec. 1 of your senior year in high school.
Other scholarships are available if you decide to enter the ROTC program at a later date. Information about scholarship opportunities and deadlines is at afrotc.unt.edu.
You must be a U.S. citizen attending UNT full time, be in good physical condition and have good moral character.
We encourage you to fulfill the graduation requirements for the Texas Recommended or Distinguished Achievement Program or the equivalent in high school.
In your junior year, take the SAT or the ACT and have your scores sent to UNT.
In your senior year, apply for admission at Apply Texas by March 1 and request that your high school transcript be sent to the UNT admissions office.
Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate courses can count toward college credit at UNT.
If you’re attending a Texas community college, you should consult our Transfer Articulation web page, the UNT Undergraduate Catalog and an academic counselor/advisor to review your degree plan. Proper planning will help you receive the maximum amount of transfer credits.
Our Transfer Center will help you make a successful transition to college life at UNT by connecting you with a peer mentor and other campus resources. More than 3,500 students transfer to UNT each year. The center is in the University Union, Room 320.
