Get connected

University of North Texas' student organizations help promote leadership development, community spirit, activism, public service, and social and cultural interaction. Joining one or more of UNT's student organizations is a great way for you to make new friends and get the most out of your college experience. Each year, more than 300 organizations sponsor conferences, seminars, lectures, debates, cultural and social events, and fine arts programs. UNT students meet and interact with renowned scholars, artists, politicians, academics and other professionals through student organizations.

You may learn about specific organizations by attending an Organization Fair or by visiting the Student Activities Center.

Professional and academic/honorary organizations

Almost every academic department at UNT has one or more career organizations for students. Many of these organizations are student chapters of professional career organizations, such as the National Association of Black Journalists. Through a professional organization, you could meet professionals in your field and visit companies in the Dallas-Fort Worth region. You also may attend conventions, participate in academic competitions or learn employment search strategies.

Many academic departments also have academic and honorary organizations to recognize students who have obtained a certain grade point average and demonstrated leadership potential. UNT has several honor societies, such as Golden Key and Mortar Board, which recognize students in all majors.

Fraternities and sororities

Greek life at UNT is an important part of our tradition. Greek organizations are involved in every aspect of campus life, from Homecoming to intramural competitions. UNT is home to more than 38 sanctioned fraternities and sororities represented by the Interfraternity Council, the Multicultural Greek Council, the National Pan-Hellenic Council, and the Panhellenic Association.

Governing organizations

UNT has several organizations that give students a voice in policy and student welfare. The Student Government Association (SGA) is a student organization dedicated to serving the interests of the student body and is the official voice of UNT students. The Graduate Student Council (GSC) serves as an active voice of UNT graduate students, representing graduate concerns to the faculty, administration and the state government.

LA ALIANZA serves as the umbrella organization for all Hispanic/Latino organizations focused on establishing and maintaining communications among organizations, the Hispanic Denton community and the UNT community. The Coalition of Black Organizations (COBO) serves as the unifying body for all African/African American student organizations and promotes strength through unity.

If you live in a residence hall, you may become involved in your Residence Hall Association (RHA). The association makes regulations, plans social events and helps provide a better living atmosphere for hall residents.

Religious and multicultural organizations

UNT has many organizations that celebrate and reflect the ethnic or racial heritage of students. These groups can provide opportunities for you to learn about other cultures and to interact with students who share or are interested in your culture. The diversity of our student body creates many opportunities to teach the UNT community about other cultures.

You may interact with other students who share your spiritual beliefs or learn about a different religion through one of UNT's religious organizations. These include groups for students of various denominations and religions as well as non-denominational groups.

Spirit and service organizations

Many of UNT's student organizations promote school spirit and provide services and activities for Denton residents and the UNT community. The University Program Council (UPC) brings speakers and films to campus, plans social events and sponsors student trips to regional events.

Members of the North Texas Forty (NT40) are comprised of the top 40 student leaders. NT40 assists with special events on campus and also works with the North Texas Exes Alumni Association.

The Talons are devoted to promoting school spirit from attending athletic events and the Homecoming Bonfire to taking care of the Mean Green Machine.

There are over 20 student organizations devoted to service throughout the campus and local communities. Contact the Student Activities Center for more information.

Sport and special interest clubs

You do not have to be on one of UNT's NCAA teams to play a sport. By joining a sport club, you can participate with other students who share your interest. The Office of Recreational Sports sponsors many clubs on campus, including aikido, baseball, billiards, bowling, cycling, fencing, ice hockey, in-line hockey, lacrosse, racquetball, rugby, sailing, soccer, ultimate disc and volleyball.

If you are interested in national politics, computers, or music, or if you are an advocate for causes such as preventing substance abuse, you may meet other students who share your interest through one of UNT's many special interest clubs. If no group exists for your interest, consider forming one.
