Frequently Asked Questions


1. Does UNT use the THEA Test as an Admission requirement?

NO

2. Can I enroll for a full semester load my first semester without having taken the THEA Test?

NO. The THEA Test, or an alternative THEA test,  must be taken prior to enrolling for classes.  Transfer/transient students should check with the Program for Academic Readiness office.  

3. Do I have to pass all sections of the THEA Test before I can enroll at UNT?

NO

4. If I don't pass all three sections of the THEA or alternative test, can I enroll and take regular coursework the next semester? 

YES -along with mandatory remediation for whichever section was not passed.

5. I am exempt at another Texas college, do I have to provide UNT with the exemption documentation?

YES

6. If I do not pass all sections of the THEA Test/alternative test the first time I take it, do I have to retake the sections I have not passed?

Once you pass the highest level of developmental course in the section failed, you will be complete with that section.

7.  What is the difference between the THEA Test and the Quick THEA Test?

They are the same test and are accepted at any Texas state college/university.  The Quick THEA Test is given on a more frequent basis and you register and pay the day of the test.  Scores are received within a week from NES receiving the test.

8.   Will UNT accept  Accuplacer, Asset, Compass or THEA test?

Yes.  Make sure the test scores will be on your college transcript you are transferring from to UNT.



9. Students seeking a teaching certificate.

Students seeking Texas Teacher Certifiation should discuss THEA requirements with the UNT College of Education Student Advising Office at (940) 565-2736.
