Exemptions
- Students are exempt from individual areas of testing (on a single sitting) if any one of the following is met:

ACT: Composite 23 and English 19
SAT: Composite 1070* and Verbal/Critical Reading 500
TAKS: ELA 2200 & Writing Essay score 3

ACT: Composite 23 and Math 19
SAT: Composite 1070* and Math 500
TAKS: Math 2200 |
| WRITING |
ACT: Composite 23 and English 19
SAT: Composite 1070* and Verbal/Critical Reading 500
TAKS: ELA 2200 & Writing Essay score 3 |
*SAT Composite = Critical Reading plus Math
ACT and SAT scores are valid for a period of five (5) years from date of testing at time of enrollment.
TAKS (eleventh grade exit-level) test scores are valid for a period of three (3) years from the date of testing at time of enrollment.
- Graduated with a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution of higher education.
- Transfers from a Texas private or out-of-state institution of higher education and has satisfactorily completed college-level coursework, determined by UNT.
- Has previously attended another Texas public institution of higher education and has been determined to have met the readiness standards by that institution.
- Is serving on active duty as a member of the armed forces of the United States, the Texas National Guard, or as a member of a reserve component of the armed forces of the United States and has been serving for at least three years preceding enrollment.
- A student who on or after August 1, 1990, was honorably discharged, retired, or released from active duty as a member of the armed forces of the United States or the Texas National Guard or service as a member of a reserve component of the armed forces of the United States.
EXEMPTION IS NOT AUTOMATIC
Students who are exempt must provide the UNT Program for Academic Readiness Office with a high school transcript or score report showing score and date taken before registration can take place. A DD214 may be required for military personnel..
