SUBJECT: GOOD NEIGHBOR SCHOLARSHIP EXEMPTION

APPLICABILITY: STUDENTS

Policy:
Qualified native-born students from the other nations of the American hemisphere and from Latin American countries designated by the United States Department of State, excluding Cuba, may be exempt from the payment of certain tuition and fees, including graduate-level tuition, as provided in section 54.207 of the Texas Education Code and rules adopted by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board for one academic year.

Eligibility Requirements:
Every applicant who wishes to receive the “Students from Other Nations of the American Hemisphere” or “Good Neighbor Scholarship” exemption shall furnish satisfactory evidence, certified by the proper authority of his native country, that he is a bona fide native-born citizen and resident of the country which certifies his application and that he is scholastically qualified for admission. No student shall be exempted under this policy who is not a native-born citizen of the country certifying his qualifications and who has not lived in one of the nations of this hemisphere for a period of at least five years.

Selection Process: The Good Neighbor Scholarship Committee, coordinated by the Student Financial Aid and Scholarships (SFAS) department, reviews applications for the exemption and recommends students to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (the “Board”). The Board selects the recipients and notifies the SFAS, which shall notify the student recipient(s).

Student Requirements: To receive an updated bill, the student must contact Student Accounting and University Cashiering Services.
