SUBJECT: DEAF OR BLIND STUDENTS - EXEMPTION

APPLICABILITY: STUDENTS

Policy:
A blind or deaf person, who is a resident of the State of Texas for tuition purposes, is entitled to exemption from the payment of tuition and fees at the University of North Texas. This exemption does not apply to fees or charges for lodging, board, clothing or rental fees (such as for music).

Requirement and Scope of Exemption:
The student must be certified as blind or deaf, as defined by section 54.205(a) of the Texas Education Code, by the Texas Rehabilitation Commission, Texas Commission for the Blind, or Texas Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, as appropriate. The written certification is considered conclusive regarding the individual’s status for purposes of the tuition and fees exemption and is valid for each semester that the individual enrolls in the university.

Student Requirement:
Qualified students who wish to receive this exemption must contact Student Accounting and University Cashiering Services.
