SUBJECT: CONFERRING OF EMERITUS STATUS

APPLICABILITY: RETIRED FACULTY

The rank of Professor Emeritus or Librarian Emeritus may be conferred by the Board of Regents upon the recommendations of the appropriate unit and administrative approval, through promotion channels and by procedures in effect at the time of the retirement of the faculty member. An individual on modified service who continues to teach on a part-time basis cannot be recommended for emeritus status while still teaching.

To be eligible for such an appointment the person must:

1. Hold appropriate rank at the time of retirement (Assistant Professor or Librarian, Associate Professor or Librarian, Professor, or head of a library department.)

2.Have held the above-mentioned ranks for at least 10 years at the University or have served in other professional ranks, such as key administrative positions, for at least 15 years at the time of retirement.

3. Have a record of distinguished service at the University.

Holders of the rank of Professor or Librarian Emeritus are listed in the Undergraduate and Graduate Catalogs.
