APPLICABILITY: FACULTY

Named professorships or chairs may be established where sources of funding provide for the creation of such positions. The holder of such a professorship or chair should be an outstanding scholar, artist, business authority, or performer.

Recommendations for appointment to named professorships or chairs follow the established personnel procedures within the University—beginning with departmental search or personnel committees, as appropriate, and moving through chairpersons, dean of the school or college, provost and vice president for academic affairs and president, to the Board of Regents—although it is recognized that the terms of a grant or donation establishing a particular named professorship or chair may necessitate modification in these normal procedures.
