SUBJECT: CRIME AWARENESS AND CAMPUS SECURITY ACT
APPLICABILITY: UNIVERSITY OF NORTH TEXAS AND UNIVERSITY OF
NORTH TEXAS SYSTEM CENTER AT DALLAS
Policy: It is the policy of the University of North Texas to
provide an environment conducive to its educational mission by complying with
the Crime Awareness and Campus Security Act of 1990, as amended.1
Accordingly, each year the university shall prepare, publish and distribute
through appropriate publications and mailings to all current students and
employees and to any applicant for enrollment or employment, upon request, a
security report containing crime statistics and campus security policies of the
institution. The President shall designate a university official or university
officials to be responsible for the development and continued implementation of
this policy.
Implementation: The university shall create procedures to
implement this policy and to comply with the Crime Awareness and Campus Security
Act and publish information informing the university community of these
policies. These publications and procedures shall include:
- a statement of current campus policies regarding procedures and facilities
for students and others to report criminal actions or other emergencies
occurring on campus;
- the university's policies concerning response to reports of criminal
actions or other emergencies occurring on campus;
- a statement of current policies concerning security and access to campus
facilities, including campus residences and security considerations used in
the maintenance of campus facilities;
- a statement of current policies concerning campus law enforcement,
including the enforcement authority of security personnel (including their
working relationship with State and local agencies) and policies that
encourage accurate and prompt reporting of all crimes to the campus police
and the appropriate police agencies;
- a description of the programs designed to inform the university community
about campus security procedures and practices and to encourage individuals
to be responsible for their own security and the security of others;
- a description of programs designed to inform students and employees about
crime prevention
- statistics concerning the occurrence of crimes on campus, in or on
noncampus buildings or property, and on public property during the most
recent calendar year and during the two preceding calendar years, as defined
and required by the Crime Awareness and Campus Security Act;
- a statement of policy concerning the monitoring and recording, through
local police agencies of criminal activity at off-campus student
organizations which are recognized by the institution and that are engaged
in by students attending the institution, including those student
organizations with off-campus housing facilities;
- a statement of policy regarding the possession, use, and sale of alcoholic
beverages and enforcement of State underage drinking laws; and
- a statement of policy regarding the possession, use, and sale of illegal
drugs and enforcement of federal and state drug laws and a description of
any drug or alcohol abuse education programs.
Program Review: The Center for Student Rights and
Responsibilities ("CSSR"), in conjunction with representatives from
the University Police Department, Office of the Vice Chancellor and General
Counsel, and Marketing and Communication Department, shall review the
procedures, policies, law annually, to ensure that the information provided to
the university community is current and that the university remains in
compliance with applicable federal and state laws.
