SUBJECT: GRADUATE FELLOWSHIP/RESEARCH ASSISTANTSHIP LOAD                     SPECIFICATIONS

APPLICABILITY: GRADUATE STUDENTS

Graduate students who hold a fellowship (scholarship), research assistantship of half time (20 hours per week) or greater, or other appointment designed for the support of graduate study must be enrolled in a minimum of nine semester credit hours during the long terms and three semester credit hours during the summer terms they hold an appointment.

These minimums apply to positions supported by state, federal, and private sources of funds. Departments/academic units may set higher requirements. A load greater than 12 semester credit hours must be approved in advance by the Dean of the Toulouse School of Graduate Studies.

Upon written recommendation of the college/school dean and approval of the dean of the graduate school, the minimum registration limit may be reduced to three semester hours for the long term for students who have filed an approved degree plan, have completed all course work, and are either ready to take the qualifying examinations and/or registered for thesis or dissertation.

Students who hold a graduate fellowship (scholarship) who are also employed as a teaching assistant or teaching fellow are under load requirements as specified in 15.1.27.
