SUBJECT:  TEXTBOOK ADOPTION POLICY

APPLICATION:  FACULTY

1. The responsibility for maintaining the official records of textbook adoptions is assigned to the UNT Bookstore by the provost and vice president for academic affairs or his/her designee.

2. The UNT Bookstore will prepare textbook adoption forms for distribution to academic units.

3. A calendar of distribution and return dates for textbook adoption forms and the due dates for printing supplemental textbook materials will be established. These dates will be formulated by the UNT Bookstore.

4. Each academic unit will designate a member of the faculty or staff as the textbook coordinator for the unit. This individual will work directly as a liaison between the UNT Bookstore and the academic unit.

As the liaison, the textbook coordinator will be the focal point for the textbook adoption process. The textbook coordinator will be responsible for working with the members of the academic unit to complete the textbook adoption forms with correct and accurate information and to assure that they are returned to the UNT Bookstore or other such locations approved by the director of business services by the deadlines established on the adoption form and approved by the Bookstore Advisory Committee. The textbook coordinator will secure signature approval from the instructor on each textbook adoption form.

5. Once a textbook has been selected and adopted, the academic unit will use the book for the course and semester for which it is selected.

Additions, replacements, and deletions cannot be made after the deadline for adoptions has passed without approval of the vice provost and associate vice president for academic affairs. The only exception will be for textbook additions, replacements, and deletions in which a requested book is unavailable in the market place.

6. The UNT Bookstore will make this information available on a timely basis to all campus competitors upon request.

7. Supplementary textbook materials (see Policy #19.8) follow the guidelines of the Textbook Adoption Policy.
